For many businesses, information and hardware asset security has become a daily concern. IT Asset Management Group would like to highlight a chart from PricewaterhouseCoopers 15th annual Global State of Information Security® Survey that illustrates the statistical importance around the review and accessibility of data privacy safeguards..
The 2013 PwC survey is important because it is based on responses from over 9,300 respondents that hold senior management roles around the world who are affluent in information security and specific corporate challenges.
Compare and Contrast: Review and Accessibility
In just one year, respondents increased official policy review requirements by 10%. This demonstrates that this is an area of concern for many organizations. What may have worked once in terms of data privacy safeguards may not be as effective just one year later. A constant review of privacy policies is the new normal.
There was also a 12% decrease in how public an organization makes its privacy policies according to survey respondents. If a particular organization was being targeted through criminal activity with a goal to obtain sensitive data, making the plans and policies of that company public knowledge can do much more harm than good.
Physical Threats
Other areas highlighted in this chart focus on inventory, control and audit of equipment that accesses or stores sensitive information. All questions within this chart showcase the need for competent vendors that handle these areas on a daily basis. The chart also helps to show the need for employees that will be knowledgeable in creating and managing related policies for end of life hardware asset management and data destruction where a 3rd party firm may be called in.
