Data Center Decommissioning for Colocation America Customers
Data center decommissioning for Colocation America customers from ITAMG covers customer-owned server, storage and network equipment retirement. ITAMG scopes de-racking, packing, data destruction, transport and disposition reporting for enterprise deployments at U.S. facilities.
Confirm which hardware belongs to your organization and who can authorize its release. Colocation equipment removal, dedicated-server cancellation and carrier disconnects involve different decisions.
Customer-owned hardware scope
Separate the equipment you can release from provider-supplied or leased assets.
Authorized physical collection
Coordinate operator release, crew access and the agreed packing and pickup arrangements.
Traceable disposition
Define the asset inventory, data treatment and completion records before collection.
Plan Your Colocation America Equipment Retirement
Request an ITAMG consultation to discuss the customer-owned inventory, operator release process and required data treatment. ITAMG will identify the removal and reporting details needed to quote the project.
Data sanitization aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2.
- Discuss the project Review the equipment, location, deadline and data-security requirements.
- Confirm the work Identify removal, destruction, transport and reporting needs, plus any site approvals.
- Prepare for a quote Establish the inventory and access information needed to price the agreed scope.
An equipment inventory is useful for the follow-up discussion; it is not required to complete this initial form.

Define Colocation America Customer Hardware Removal
ITAMG’s removal scope starts with the servers, storage and network equipment your organization owns and is authorized to release.
Distinguish colocated customer hardware from a dedicated-server or other provider-supplied service. Canceling rented capacity does not establish that your organization owns the underlying equipment. Identify leased items, retained systems and shared connections before approving the retirement inventory.
For customer-owned hardware, ITAMG can scope de-racking, packing, data destruction, transport, resale and recycling. Specify whether customer-owned racks, rails and cables are included. Confirm who is authorized to approve shutdown and migration completion; any facility restoration or infrastructure work needs a separate, explicit assignment.
Arrange Colocation America Removal Authorization and Pickup
Colocation America’s published colocation agreement treats permission to remove customer equipment as a separate step from routine access or support.
The Master Service Agreement - Colocation defines customer equipment and describes removal notification, an account check before authorization, and optional operator-arranged shipment. Confirm the requirements that apply to your signed agreement and obtain release approval before committing to collection. The dedicated-server terms elsewhere on that page govern a different service.
ITAMG’s work plan should identify the authorized equipment list, permitted crew, packing responsibility and physical handoff. Ask the facility contact to confirm the loading appointment, staging area and access arrangements. A support request or scheduled vehicle does not, by itself, establish that the hardware has been released.
-
Confirm the service type
Check whether the agreement covers your colocated hardware, provider-supplied servers or a mixture.
-
Obtain equipment release
Have the authorized account contact resolve the applicable removal notice and approval requirements.
-
Assign packing and collection
Agree who de-racks and packs the hardware, who loads it and where custody transfers.
-
Track carrier changes
Assign any circuit termination or modification to the appropriate carrier contact separately from asset removal.
Discuss Your Equipment Retirement
Request a ConsultationPlan Data Destruction and Secure Equipment Transport
ITAMG’s data-treatment and transport scope should follow the customer’s security requirements and the approved physical handoff.
Choose erasure or physical destruction for the storage media and specify onsite or ITAMG-facility processing. Onsite work requires facility permission, suitable space and an agreed price. If another party prepares or ships the equipment, decide who records the devices and seals or labels the packages before custody changes.
Record drive-to-chassis relationships when media is separated from servers or storage systems. Agree how inventory discrepancies and unsuccessful erasure will be resolved. ITAMG’s serialized destruction or recycling certificates document the services performed; a shipping record alone does not establish a sanitization outcome.
-
Identify the media
Record the systems and data-bearing devices included in the authorized retirement.
-
Define the handoff
Set the packing, collection and transport responsibilities for each party involved.
-
Reconcile the outcome
Match received assets to the agreed treatment and disposition documentation.
Price Colocation America Equipment Retirement and Closeout
An ITAMG quote defines removal and disposition costs, while operator and carrier charges remain subject to their applicable agreements.
Share the hardware models and quantities, rack positions, approved work hours, loading constraints and media-treatment choice. If Colocation America will ship or provide support for part of the work, identify that scope so ITAMG can price its own responsibilities accurately. Agree how changes to the approved inventory or collection conditions will be handled.
Ask ITAMG to state the included packing, transport, processing and reports, along with any resale recovery terms. Recovery depends on the equipment and agreed commercial conditions. Keep contract cancellation, third-party circuit changes and physical asset disposition as separate completion items.
ITAMG provides trained, insured and background-checked technicians, with GPS-tracked, insured vehicles among its logistics capabilities. Confirm the project arrangements and retain the released inventory, collection record and applicable destruction or recycling documentation.
Colocation America Data Centers and Facility Identification
ITAMG’s Colocation America directory helps identify the facility context before the customer confirms its equipment, space and account contacts.
Colocation America presents its U.S. data center locations by region. Browse the Colocation America directory and match the listing to the building and customer space in your service records. A brand name alone does not identify the hardware owner or authorize removal.
Use the main data center directory for additional operators and the decommissioning locations hub for local planning resources. ITAMG offers the separately scoped retirement services described on this page; directory inclusion does not imply operator affiliation.
Colocation America Equipment-Removal Questions
Can ITAMG collect a rented Colocation America dedicated server?
Only equipment your organization owns or has explicit authority to release belongs in an ITAMG collection scope. A rented dedicated server may remain the provider’s property. Confirm ownership and the applicable service agreement before including any provider-supplied or leased hardware.
Does a remote-hands request authorize equipment removal?
A remote-hands request describes requested assistance; it does not independently prove removal authorization. Confirm the approved asset list and release with the authorized account and facility contacts. ITAMG’s physical collection plan should reflect those approvals.
What should be agreed before operator-arranged shipment?
Define who de-racks and packs the equipment, who records its identity, where custody transfers and what data treatment remains required. Ask ITAMG to scope receiving, processing and reporting against that arrangement. Operator shipment and asset sanitization are distinct services.
