So here are three common mistakes that companies make when getting rid of old IT equipment. It’s important to unlock your devices, whether it’s EFI, MDM, BIOS passwords, in order to get money back for the equipment that you’re disposing of. So here we have a EFI lock. The equipment cannot be wiped or resold. We also have a MDM locked Apple MacBook Pro, which it can be wiped, but it can’t be resold. Second mistake, a lot of companies treat their old IT equipment like garbage. By doing this, you’re going to get less money for your equipment because it’s going to be broken or damaged. So treat your equipment well and get the money back that you deserve. A lot of companies do a poor job at securing their assets prior to disposal. It’s estimated that about 25% of end-use devices go lost or stolen during a three-year life cycle. These devices are at a higher risk of being stolen when they’re offline and in your closets waiting for disposal.
